DAY 63 - NETWORKING MATTERS – PART III

I hope you’re following along as we countdown the final 100 days of 2022 - you can join us anytime. Learn more about the program HERE.

In our third segment on networking, we’re going to focus on using networks in your job search.  There is so much research to support utilizing networks for finding jobs or career advancement versus other methods like internet searches, job boards, etc.

In a recent article posted by Apollo Technical on May 25th, 2022, Apollo cites that “[n]etworking is the most successful way of finding a meaningful job and attaining career success.  80% of professionals find networking essential to their career success, almost 100% believe that face-to-face meetings builds stronger long-term relationships, and 41% want to network more often.”  They go on to say that “[n]etworking is vital for those who want to move up in their career.  According to HubSpot, 85% of jobs are filled through networking.  In fact, according to CNBC, 70% of jobs are never published publicly.”

So, what does that mean if you’re trying to find a new job?

  1. You have to get out there!  Use your network and invite someone out for coffee who is in your line of business.

  2. Research companies you’d like to work for and utilize LinkedIn or other social media to find people you might know who work there.  Connect with them.  Many companies pay employees a referral bonus if they help fill an open position – an incentive for someone in your network to help get your resume to the right person.

  3. Don’t assume.  It’s a mistake to limit your outreach only to the people in your immediate business circle.  That stay-at-home mom you volunteer with at church just might have a friend or family member at a company where you’ve been trying to get an interview.  The person who does your hair might just be one of the most connected people in your community.  Ask everyone you know for opportunities or introductions.

If you are job-seeking and haven’t gone deeper with your connections, use a couple of these recommendations today to get more traction!
