DAY 73 - ARE THE “SUNDAY BLUES” REAL?

I hope you’re following along as we countdown the final 100 days of 2022 - you can join us anytime. Learn more about the program HERE.

There was a time when Sunday at 6:00 PM rolled around, that I could feel myself starting to get “down in the dumps.”  As people have started to talk more openly about it, this feeling of sadness that hits you at the end of the weekend has been labeled the Sunday Blues.

So, what’s the reason?  We don’t want the time with family or fun weekend adventures to end?  Or is it what we’re facing in the week ahead at work?

If you do experience this feeling, there’s no doubt the reasons why will vary for each of us.  What’s most important is to understand why we get those feelings and then what do we do about it.  I can say from experience that it was not fun.  Further, I always worried my family would sense it.

If this resonates with you, grab your notebook!  Try to find a little solitude where you can dig into the why of the blues?  While getting quiet so we can figure things out can sometimes be uncomfortable – clarity is key.  Once you understand it, then you can do something about it.

For me, it was my work environment.  While I loved many of my colleagues, I felt that my contributions didn’t matter.  I put in very long days and really felt like I was giving the best of me to my job.  Feeling that way just got me down come Sunday evening.  The problem I realized, was that I wasn’t getting the feedback I needed from my manager.  I didn’t get any feedback.  I drummed up the courage to tell him how I felt.  I wasn’t looking for pats on the back all the time, I just needed to know that the effort I was putting in was on track with expectations and I was a valued contributor.

Are you a Sunday Blues person?  Before this next weekend is over, I challenge you to take the steps to try and figure out why.  What’s the reason?  No one should feel that way and it’s time to take action to work through it!
