Day 99 - GET RID OF THE SMALL STUFF

I hope you’re following along as we countdown the final 100 days of 2022 - you can join us anytime. Learn more here about the program HERE.

We’re told to “not sweat the small stuff.”  But left unattended, the small stuff can start to stack up quickly and create anxiety.  I’m a huge believer in tackling the petty annoyances that drain our energy.  These are the seemingly silly things that just drive you crazy, like:

  • the buttons on my winter coat fell off last year and the colder weather is not far off.

  • the kid’s library books are still sitting here collecting overdue fines.

  • I haven’t made my follow-up appointment with the dentist.

  • the Goodwill pile of old clothes is still in my trunk from last month.

  • I need to mail that package and buy stamps.

  • the dog needs to get groomed.

Do any of these resonate?  Each time we come across the things we put off; frustration perks up because it’s annoying that the little things aren’t getting done and collectively it starts to weigh you down.

Grab your notebook!  I know people like to use lists on their computers or phones, but there is so much written about the psychology of physically crossing things off your list, the relief it provides, it reduces anxiety and creates a true feeling of efficiency and satisfaction.  We’re providing you with some list prompts to assist in capturing everything that needs attending to.

Schedule a block of time within the next 7 days and get everything on the list taken care of.  If you’re able to, divide the list up with others in the family, great.  If it’s just you, get a friend to make their own list and be a “challenge buddy” for each other.  Commit to the same day and time, encouraging each other to get the job done.  Don’t forget to periodically check in throughout the day to make sure you’re both on track!  The relief is just around the corner.

Celebrating the accomplishment is very important!  We all need positive reinforcement.  If you got it all done, treat yourself to get your nails done, have brunch with your “challenge buddy” or grab your favorite coffee and go for a walk (after all it is fall, and where you live the leaves might be starting to change).  If the family is assisting with the list, schedule a movie night, do a pizza party, or go on a hike with a picnic.

Please share in the comments the first thing you want to cross off your list!
