Benefits of morning walking

I encourage you to not skip over today’s topic… just get moving!

In May, I went to a women’s retreat in Maine.  Libby DeLana was one of the speakers, a truly remarkable lady.   She literally changed my perspective on walking.  While I have always loved walking as a way to get some exercise, Libby opened my eyes to a new way of thinking about walking.  How so?  It’s all about perspective.

In her book Do/Walk / Navigate earth, mind and body.  Step by step., Libby cites the many health benefits walking provides, including improving moods.  I can completely attest to how this helps moods.  After that event in May, I committed to walk each morning, rain, or shine.  And I do.  While I’ve always been one of those 5:00 AM people, I get myself out the door and walk.  The length of the walk isn’t relevant, what’s important is to get moving!  While there are some days when I just don’t feel like it, I still go, and I don’t regret it.  In Colorado where I live, fall is in full swing.  The mornings are chilly, in the low 40’s and it’s definitely dark when I’m out there.  Instead of excuses, I layer on extra clothing, use my new headlamp I bought on Amazon, leash up my puppy and head out.

Whether you’re trying to get in a bit more exercise or are feeling down and need a mood elevator, please give this a try.  The time of day doesn’t matter as long as you’re out.  BTW…Libby’s book is wonderful, and she also has a podcast called This Morning Walk.  Both are absolute treasures.
