You are what you do, not what you say you’ll do.

learning to be reliable

There is a LOT going on right now in our world.  So many things we cannot control, inflation, companies downsizing, interest rates increasing, and still concerns over more new versions of COVID that might creep in during the cold months ahead.  To name a few.  However, what we can control is how we respond to these challenges and to others.  One of the most important things to me, especially when there is turmoil, is for the people in my life to be true to their word.

If someone makes a promise or a commitment, we should be able to have the peace of mind that they will fulfill it.  If they can’t, we should expect they will let us know why.  I hold myself to these same standards.

To take it one step further, the size of the promise or commitment is not relevant.

  • If you’re invited to a party or event and RSVP “yes,” you’re expected to show up.

  • If you commit to making calls on someone’s behalf to assist with finding them a job – then please do it.

  • If you say you are available on Saturday to help a friend move, you need to be there.

The bottom line is when things around us are unsettling, for whatever reason, we have to be true to our word.  When we’re not, we impact someone else and let them down.  On top of the other challenges we’re all facing, that can feel disheartening.  Let’s be true to our word, for each other!
