3 THINGS TO REMEMBER DURING THE HOLIDAYS

The older I get the quicker the holidays seem to appear. This is the time of year when I want time to slow down so I can savor everything. Preparations, decorating, thinking of the perfect gifts for the people I love…for me, it’s even more fun than the actual holiday. This year is no exception for the excitement or the speed at which it’s coming. So as I remind myself of how to approach these busy days, I will share it with you:

  1. Not everything needs to be perfect. It took a long time for me to realize that my best is good enough and that I don’t have to have every, single, detail accounted for. The effort we bring to anything already shows how much we care. No one wants me or you to be exhausted for the holidays.

  2. Surprising people who least expect it is so much fun. I love surprising people with something that they least expect. I made a couple of special goodie baskets this year for neighbors. We have some really wonderful people who live near us and they go out of their way to show little acts of kindness throughout the year. I can’t even count how many times I heard my neighbor clearing the sidewalks of snow in front of our house. Or the teenage boy across the street who is more than willing to water plants during the summer when we’re gone. Giving them a basket of treats puts smiles on both our faces.

  3. The time together is so important. Remember that the time together is itself, a real gift. It can feel stressful to feel like you have to show up or make an appearance. Try and remember that when you are invited to someone’s home for the holidays, it’s because you are wanted, valued, and maybe even missed. Time together should never be taken for granted.

Take time to breathe as we roll into these last days before the holidays. Enjoying it should be what matters most!
