DAY 83 - RAISE NECESSITY

I hope you’re following along as we countdown the final 100 days of 2022 - you can join us anytime. Learn more about the program HERE.

how can I save money for family vacation?

There are a lot of self-development books that tout all of the reasons why developing productive habits is beneficial.  I’m a huge proponent of that guidance.  What some fail to note is the psychology behind the motivation to create better habits.  Simply put – you have to raise necessity.

Necessity inspires.  Necessity drives us.  Necessity creates urgency.  If we understand the “why” of what the goal is, we can create a habit that has more tangible meaning for us.

Example:

Challenge: “I want us to take a family vacation where we can completely decompress and connect with everyone.  We just can’t afford it.”

Poor habit: “I spend a lot on things we just don’t need.  Things that I think will make me feel better, but it’s only temporary.  Then I regret it.”

There’s a void that is trying to be filled with “stuff.”  Getting quiet to focus on the “why” and coming to terms with what’s missing (perhaps quality time with family) provides the clarity and necessity to fix it.

Solution - Take the steps:

  1. Where do we all want to go on vacation?

  2. Start researching the cost.

  3. Evaluate the last 3-month’s unnecessary spending and find the total of what can be saved to contribute to the vacation.

  4. Open a vacation savings account and auto-transfer $$$ dollars into the account every paycheck.

  5. Figure out how long it will take to cover it and get it on the calendar!

Grab your notebook!

What habits have you longed to put into place but can’t figure out why you haven’t?  Make a list then look into the necessity of the habit.

Identify at least 2 habits you will implement this week based on your evaluation.  Find the “why” and you will raise your necessity for success.
