Let’s connect with people and hopefully make their day a little better.

This week, I made sure to connect with people and hopefully make their day a little better.

My goal is for all of you to be able to say this statement on Friday.  How amazing would it be to feel?  With a little effort and some intentional thought, it can happen.

This week, I am enlisting everyone for a challenge!  I’m asking you to make a 5-day commitment to touch the lives of others.  Commit to doing at least one action per day, for 5 days.  Why?  Imagine the compounding effect.

Before your mind shifts to “I’m already so busy…” I am asking you to allow your mind and heart to fill with gratitude and intentionally share some of that goodness by making someone else’s life a little better.  And it can all happen as part of your normal, daily routine.  Here are a few ways:

  1. People who cross your path.   Commit to say “I hope you have a great day” to everyone who gets into the elevator with you, rings up your purchase at the store, or stops by your desk at work.  Whether you know these people or not – greet them graciously.

  2. Acknowledge a friend, colleague, or neighbor who has helped you out lately.  Write/send them a thank you card and specifically tell them their action made a difference to you – even if you told them thank you before.  Putting it in writing to address their kindness is powerful.

  3. Send a basket of fruit with your kids to school for the people in the front office.  Take another basket with you to your dentist or doctor’s appointment.  It doesn’t have to be extravagant – a basket with some apples and oranges will brighten their day.

  4. Be a Secret Santa in March and put a treat on a co-worker’s desk – anonymously.  Enjoy their surprise and smile without taking the credit for it.

  5. Put a special, handwritten note in your kid’s or spouse’s lunch bag.

  6. Place a sticky note on the bathroom mirrors telling the people in your family how much you love them.

  7. Leave a card on the seat of your spouse/partners car, reminding them how important they are to you.  Maybe use it to ask them on a date.

  8. Call a friend you haven’t spoken to in a while – just because.

I’m sure you can think of dozens more ideas.  The challenge, however, is to put the ideas into action.  I am certain that come this Friday, if you’ve made the commitment, you will feel even more fulfilled and happier than the people you touched.

I accept the challenge.  Will you?
